Tiny Tales Thursday...

There are certain moments as a parent that are etched in your brain as if put there by a giant flash of light.

The first time your baby smiles.
The first time your baby laughs.
The first "ma-ma" or "dada".
The last time you rock them to sleep.
The last time you nurse.

You get the idea.

And yes, most of these moments are beautiful and lovely and can bring tears to the backs of your eyes with a just a thought.

And then there are those light flashing moments that you want to erase from memory.

For example.

Tuesday afternoon Landry came home from school with a headache. Sort of jokingly as we were walking out of school Ms. Vivian commented, "You know that's the first sign of the stomach virus."

I awkwardly replied, "Ha ha. Yeah."

35 minutes later.

It happened.

That flash of light moment when one of your kids vomits for the first time and they have no idea what happened. I think that's where Tears for Fears gets their name. That moment. There are tears and there is fear. There is confusion. There is sadness. And well, there is regurgitation.

I cleaned her up, put on some pjs, made a pallet on the couch and quarantined the area.

20 minutes later... Emmy starts complaining of a head ache.

Awesome.

Everyone goes to bed without much commotion.

Until.

1am. Emmy is awake and crying. Landry is awake and crying. I am kind of awake and saying words that rhyme with hit, truck, and jam. Ryan is trying to figure out which girl to grab first.

Emmy stubs her toe and lunges at me. A flash of light moment. I avoid her like the plague. All while patting her back trying to calm her down.

Landry is yelling "key ka key ka" (kitty cat, kitty cat) in the back ground.

Radley is asleep.

We settle everyone down and pat ourselves on the back for quick reflexes. There are clean sheets. Clean blankets. Clean pjs. And a load of laundry soothing us all back to sleep.

Yes, parenthood brings lots of flash of light moments.

And like a flash of lightning... you never know when they will hit!
