Science is super cool...

WE HAD A FANTASTIC WEEKEND!!!!

My brother, SIL and nephew were visiting from California so expect some picture heavy posts the next few days. (You're welcome, Mom...apologies to others).

We wanted to the most of our sweet time together so we headed to Houston on Friday to visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science.  GiGi and Pops purchased our tickets in advance - thanks Mom and Dad - so we were able to eat as soon as we arrived and then start discovering some awesome science stuff. (Note: Whoever decided to place a McDonald's in the middle of a museum is a genius.)

Once their tummies were full, they were ready to go!
(Owen is only 2 years older than Radley - isn't that crazy?!!)

First stop:

Radley was in heaven. He has become fascinated by bugs/insects with the recent overtaking of BCS by crickets. He wants to know everything there is to know about them and sadly I have little to no answers.

This is a Giant Prickly Stick native to Australia and it lives up to its name.

Emmy was {surprisingly} in heaven.
It may have slightly  to do with the fact that someone was carrying her all day.
:)

This place was just awesome. Filled with all sorts of creepy crawly creatures (behind glass so they don't creppily crawl on me). See anything here?

Look closely...

Isn't that crazy?!?! There were 6 insects in that case that you had to "find" - just incredible what nature does. (Well, just reinforces how smart God really is... for those that were wondering).

It also had tons of "did you know facts" scattered around...

Gross.

And then we walked into the butterfly exhibit and the kids were
ECSTATIC!!!! They were just flying all over the place!

Well, Landry was asleep. But her dreams were filled with butterflies I just know it.

Rice paper butterfly was the "friendliest"... lots of people were "catching" this guy. Really just getting landed on and they would stay there for about 2 minutes (which seemed like a long time).

This little man brought joy to kids all day long. He was holding a giant prickly stick and a caterpillar.
Look at Emmy girl - so brave!

And Radley was excited to hold the caterpillar!

The three entomologists in making...

And the one that sleeps through everything.
:)

This was the last little sign we saw as we left...

{again} Gross.

Then we headed to the new Hall of Paleontology where two little boys got to discover some pretty big creatures!

She woke up to make some velociraptor sounds.

Jeremy and I got a kick out of some of the names of these creatures.

The "stupendous" sea turtle was my favorite!

But life doesn't seem so stupendous.
;)

And I couldn't help but do my best Annie/Mrs. Hannigan when reading this sign.

They didn't want to "leap".

Everyone had the best day... I think the adults were much more into learning than the little ones. Funny how that happens. Radley actually knew quite a bit - I was impressed. Owen also knew his dinosaur facts... its crazy how much more has been discovered than we knew as little tikes of our own. Also scary that it has been decadeS since I "studied" dinosaurs.

We had time before the day was over and the kids INSISTED on going back to the butterfly center.

And I know one little guy that was glad we did....

He sat there and waited for that butterfly to climb onto his tiny finger...

And was so amazed...

And learned a valuable lesson about patience.

I HIGHLY recommend the HMNS to anyone of all ages. It is incredible and reasonably priced.

Definitely a day to remember!
