Saturday night we had plans to visit Santa's Wonderland with the Munson's.
Everyone was so excited - I mean just look at this face:
And then we got there. Santa's Town opens at 6pm. Our "great" plan was to eat nearby at 5pm and then drive the 2 miles to the park and get there when it opens. About 1 mile out from the park we see it -- nothing but taillights. Stopped. Waiting to park.
It was 5:45pm.
Clearly other people had the same "master plan" as us! So, we were directed to the "jockey" lot to park our cars where we load a bus and be driven across the street to enter. No big deal, right?
Wrong. This is what we arrived to see....
A giant line of people. Just waiting for the BUS. To go to the park where they will then wait in another line to purchase TICKETS to get in, where they will then wait in another in a line to see SANTA/ride the hayride to see the lights, etc...
As we got to the end of the line (seriously, like 300 people), Josh raised his hands and exclaimed, "Am I seriously going to be the only rational one here? Are we REALLY about to do this?" Ryan was pretty much in agreeance with Josh - Cindy and I were a bit worried about the reaction of two little people when we told them we weren't going to see Santa - so we volunteered Josh to break the news.
He must have done a good job convincing them because they were all smiles when we loaded the car back up and headed to our new location...
The infamous POST OAK MALL!
That's right - we spent our Saturday night among the "mall rats" - and seriously could not have had more fun!!! First stop: Santa Claus.
Radley informed him that we wanted Lincoln Logs and Legos.
Caroline of course requested Yoda - because who doesn't want a 3 foot Jedi master?
(I think Santa will deliver on both counts).
Now, while the backdrop at the mall may not have been as pretty as the high dollar one at "Santa's Wonderland" - the employees kept letting us take pictures until we got one we liked.
Bonus!
Then like any good mall rat - we cruised around and spent money on random "sights" the mall had to offer. Like a Hurricane Simulator - 78 mph winds!
They loved it!
This crew could really be happy anywhere as long as they are all together making noise!
We then headed to the Food Court, because what trip to the mall is complete without semi-health code approved food consumption? Radley enjoyed his sugar cookie.
And Emmy shared a shake with Daddy.
After all that sugar - the PLAYGROUND!
Now, our kids go to "school" and parks and have had plenty of opportunities to play on a playground. However, the kids that they got to hang out with on Saturday were perhaps a bit more street smart than they. :) They learned a thing or two and by the end of the night were climbing and jumping on things just like pro.
(I tried to get an action shot of Radley but he has been trained to smile whenever he sees a camera).
Caro and Anna showing off their balancing skills...
After the sugar rush began to wear off, we headed back out to our cars for the drive home.
And while this wasn't the evening we had envisioned - it was more fun than we could have planned!
A new Munson/King tradition perhaps? We will see!
