One day...

One day they are going to say no to this outing.

One day they will be annoyed at the thought of pausing for an hour to drive to the "pumpkin patch".

One day they won't want to bend down for a silly picture.

One day they won't want to run through a maze made of hay.

One day they will roll their eyes when I make them pause to see how tall they are this fall.

But this day they smiled. And laughed. They picked out the perfect to them pumpkin and vegetables they'll never eat. They giggled and danced and played tic tac toe with pumpkins. They asked if they could feed a goat and they insisted on tasting some honey.

So this day I give thanks and count my blessings for the pause in the busy and the laughter among the mess.
