No to drugs, yes to reading...

We just ended a week-long time honored tradition in the recent years of education - RED RIBBON WEEK!!!!! I was strangely excited about Radley getting to participate in this event (and then I thought that seemed kind of strange since I am essentially celebrating a week that sadly has to exist in the first  place, but you understand).

Day One: Wear RED Day

Day Two: We're too smart for drugs! (College hat day - no pic)
Day Three: Give drugs the BOOT! (Wear boots - insta pic)
Day Four: Spirit Day (CHE Shirt - insta pic)

The week ended with a College Hills 40 year tradition - the Book Character Parade! Each child was asked to pic their favorite character from a book and come dressed as that character for a parade. Radley's pick was a slightly different - a shark. Ha!

I tried and tried to talk him into being "Clark" from Clark the Shark but he would have nothing of it - he wanted to be A SHARK. And he made a pretty cute one, too.

(Just tell him he looked scary).

We got all set up to watch the parade of characters go by...

and GiGi even joined us! Yay!

And then it began. And when they said that the parade was a BIG deal - they meant it. Buglers from the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band lead step off. Followed by the A&M Consolidated HS football team, cheerleaders, Belles, baseball team, and Spirit Squad.

Everyone joined in. Teachers, Administrative Staff, Coaches and Principals - we were super impressed with the creativity!

Radley's class finally came by and his teachers were the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.
Sra. Weberich was the face and Mrs. Kammerer was the body - cute!

But the real stars were all the kids!

They had tons of smiles on their faces and were so eager to show off their costumes and books!

Not gonna lie - we were pretty pumped that Radley had a home made costume and he loved it!

And he wanted everyone to know that he was a GREAT WHITE SHARK!
Ha!

I have tons of pics of all of my favorite costumes, but I'm not sure if the parents of those kids want their child's pictures on the internet. But - there was Thomas the Train, lots of Princesses, Pirates, Dr. Seuss Characters, and Cowboys.

Once the parade was over, we made our way into the gym for a Spirit Rally!

It was CRAZY! But so much fun. I had flashbacks to the RHS gym and all the noise and celebrations of Fridays. And now I'm here with my own kiddo - full circle indeed!

We may need to work on those eyes.
;)

Lots of the Aggies and HSers attended CHE, so they shared with the children how important reading is in their lives right now as well as their favorite book when they were a child. This young man pointed to his former teacher and let everyone know that he still loves Harry Potter.

The cheerleaders did a quick chant.

And then the teachers did their own parade so all the kids could see their costumes. Each unit had their own theme.

Minions...

Kids' Characters like Arthur...

and the Wizard of Oz were just a few.

Then it was done and we were headed on with our day.

But not before one more pic of our shark.
(Who by this time was totally over his Mommy taking pictures)

And on our way out - Emmy met a Tiger!
(Landry wanted nothing to do with her!)

We love his school!!! Can't wait to see what else the year holds for him!
